Windows 10 ESU registration not showing up – here’s how to fix it

As of October 14, 2025, Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows 10 version 22H2. That means your system no longer receives regular updates. However, through the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, you can still keep your PC protected – free of charge and directly from Microsoft. Important: this offer is only available within the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland. The Windows 10 ESU registration will only appear if your system is fully up to date and all Windows 10 updates up to the end of support are installed.

Many users report that the Windows 10 ESU registration does not show up automatically. This usually happens due to missing services, registry issues, or incomplete system components. If the option doesn’t appear, you can fix the problem in just a few clicks.

Easy solution: our software handles everything automatically

Our software checks your system for the necessary Windows components, including the executable file sc.exe, which is required for certain Windows services. If it’s missing or blocked, the software automatically repairs it. It then enables the required services, adds the correct registry values, and launches the ESU registration process – safely, reliably, and with no manual input required. In just a few minutes, your PC will be ready to continue receiving security updates.

Manual method: activate Windows 10 ESU registration yourself

If you prefer to do it manually, you can also activate the registration yourself. Make sure all Windows 10 updates are installed, especially the final cumulative update for version 22H2. Then follow these steps:

  1. Open the Windows search bar and type cmd.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator.”
  3. Enter the following command and press Enter: sc.exe config DiagTrack start= auto
  4. Then type: sc.exe start DiagTrack and press Enter again.
  5. Next, copy and paste this command and press Enter: reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Policies\Microsoft\FeatureManagement\Overrides" /v 4011992206 /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
  6. Restart your PC.
  7. After the restart, open Command Prompt again (as administrator) and enter: cmd /c ClipESUConsumer.exe -evaluateEligibility
  8. Restart your PC a second time.
  9. Finally, open Windows Update. If your system is up to date and you have administrator rights, the option to register for the ESU program should now appear.

Common causes when ESU registration doesn’t appear

• Windows 10 isn’t fully updated.

• The diagnostic service (DiagTrack) is disabled or corrupted.

• The file sc.exe is missing or not working correctly.

• ESU-related registry entries are missing or incorrect.

• Group policies or security software are blocking registration.

• The ESU component ClipESUConsumer.exe isn’t functioning properly.

Frequent ESU error codes

  • 0x80070643 – Error installing an ESU component
  • 0x800f081f – Missing or corrupted system files
  • 0x80240023 – Device not registered for ESU
  • 0x80248007 – Windows Update service error

Frequently asked questions
What is Windows 10 ESU registration?
ESU stands for Extended Security Updates. It allows Microsoft to continue providing important security patches for Windows 10 even after official support has ended.
Who can use ESU?
All Windows 10 users running version 22H2 within the European Union, the EEA, or Switzerland can participate for free, provided all updates are installed.
Why doesn’t ESU registration appear on my PC?
This often happens because required system updates are missing or Windows services are disabled. Incorrect registry entries can also block registration.
What does the software check?
The program automatically detects whether the sc.exe file and all required services are present before making any changes. This ensures that only complete and functioning systems are modified.
How long will the ESU program last?
Microsoft plans to offer Extended Security Updates for at least one additional year starting in October 2025.
What happens if I don’t register for ESU?
Without ESU registration, your Windows 10 system will no longer receive security updates, leaving it more vulnerable to malware and other security risks.
